Dealing With A Best Friend’s Betrayal, Spiritually.
Someone, who was my best friend and a business partner, betrayed me by taking a large sum of money from the business by deception. I didn’t take legal action for personal reasons and have tried to let it go, but I can’t seem to get rid of the anger and grief in me. Could you please advise?”
There is nothing wrong with taking action when warranted. But because you have decided not to take action, seeing the situation from a spiritual perspective may help.
If anger and grief remain stored within for a prolonged period, they affect your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Moving forward, you should make your well-being a priority and use yogic wisdom to come out of anger and grief.
Look into yourself honestly to see if you are in any way responsible for what occurred. If so, accepting that responsibility will help you in calming down the anger in you.
Accept the realities of life. Though no one wants betrayal, the truth is that it happens and will continue to happen in one form or the other, even among best friends and family members. Desires and greed can be very overpowering. They make people weak and blind their discriminating faculties. Any form of betrayal occurs only out of weakness. A strong person can see his ill-intentions and doesn’t act on them. A weak person justifies his ill-intentions and ends up working on them.
See the reality, that all relationships are temporary and have their expiry dates. Some expire in this life, and some in another. Some expire gradually and quietly, and some expire with a painful drama.
From the karmic point of view, life is a mysterious play of actions and reactions. It is difficult to say whether an event is a reaction to a past action or a seed for a reaction in the future.
Knowing the above, how can one be angry toward someone who may be acting out of weakness or just being an instrument for that which must happen?
So, my dear friend, if you keep questioning and continue to remain angry, you might be sowing the seeds for this drama of betrayal to continue, not only in this life but also in the next life. The other choice for you is to use spiritual wisdom and rise above the event. Use it as an opportunity to mature spiritually. Believe in yourself. You can do it!
